A historic step toward community-led conservation and rural prosperity ![]()
His Excellency, the Minister for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MoAL), launched the Kangpar Community-Based Capture Fisheries Management Groupโs Management Plan (KCCFMP), marking the first-ever Community-Based Capture Fisheries Management Group in Trashigang Dzongkhag.
The group, formed by 56 households from Lamyong and Maduwa Chiwogs, collectively managed an 8.52 sq. km fisheries area, guided by shared rules, seasonal protection, and community monitoring. Alongside the launch, the group also introduced three value-added productsโfresh fish, smoked fish, and smoked filletโhighlighting a new chapter in product diversification and local entrepreneurship.
This locally led initiative strengthened sustainable natural resource management, enhanced food and nutritional security, and created new livelihood opportunities, while placing stewardship firmly in the hands of the community.
The group was formed through the collective efforts of the Gewog Administration, Kangpar, the Dzongkhag Administration, Trashigang, with technical support from the National Research Center for Riverine and Lake Fisheries (NRCR&LF), Haa, under the Department of Livestock, MoAL.
